Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
I'd take Townsend from the Geordies. Anyone else do you think?

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
Rob Elliott as he would probably be happy to be number 2, if Randolph is off. Nathan Redmond in a heartbeat - three or more times the player Moses is. No one else though...and Shelvey can absolutely fuck off.

If Bilic fancies another CB what about Jamaal Lascelles? Probably the one Newcastle player to come out of this with any credit.

Plus no thanks for Janmaat, he gave up for them about 6 months ago.

Oxford definitely off? Where? Insert massive sell on clause! Wijnaldum is Dutch so bad attitude comes as standard.

This attitude thing is based on nothing but press reports, to be fair not stroppy but disinterested sometimes. Makes you wonder if that is down to other influences as the bloke can certainly play and if Slav could harness him properly he would be an asset

I am with you on CB's. Was shocked when we heard that the key area Slav identified at interview as the priority signing was left sided CB. There was a little flurry of press comment a few weeks back that we were looking again at CB's this window.

Looking at those we have, Og aside, I can see an upgrade on the horizon on the right. Ginge signed a 2 year extension so a year left and he is not getting younger, Reid and Tomkins I like, but it if hypercritical, it is notable that since Ginge was injured we looked and were more vulnerable.I would not be shocked to see one of Reid or Tomkins sold and replaced.

Of the pups, its seems that Oxford is off, so Burke and perhaps another pup, hence my Lascelles suggestion?

Who knows but I have a feeling more will be leaving this window than we generally might think - going to be interesting.

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
You could be right but I'd be pretty miffed if I'd ended up at Newcastle under the clown Mcclaren. I'd probably sack my agent rather than sulk though.

I'm a bit confused by our CB situation, we need a top quality one to partner Ogbonna imo and we should probably off Tomkins as he's probably the worst of our four very good CBs. I dont know what this means for Oxford and Burke, there just doesn't seem to be room for them. There certainly isn't room for another non starting CB, so no Lascelles for me. Collins has signed a new deal so it would appear he's staying put, but we probably need to do something to keep the youngsters happy or we lose them for peanuts.

I guess some of this is helped if we are in Europe next season, more games equals more opportunities for fringe players.

I like him Vexed, not sure about his attitude though

What about that lad from Forest - Lascelles, good looking prospect and he at least seemed to give a shit. With Oxford likely going I would not be unhappy with him

Surely only Wijnaldum is worth bothering with? All the rest are dross.

Sissoko at Newcastle is decent but similar to Kouyate.

Have West Brom and Swansea been relegated?

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
I wouldn't want a player from any of those clubs. They were relegated for a reason. Acquiring one of them would imply he is better than what we already have.

We should be looking at players from clubs that are challenging for honours.

the Newcastle right back

my Geordie mate said townsend was good for 50% of the games he played

villa are pony throughout

Norwich, is Redmond really any good? 6 goals and 3 assists in a poor team isn't a disgrace tbh

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
Janmaat all day long. Good player on his day and we need someone byram can push for the right back spot and Antonio simply isn't a right back. Janmaat would be a welcome addition same as Townsend if the price is right.

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
Okay I've had a long think about this subject now, and here's who I'd bid for if I were WHU. This is not the players I rate, this is the offers I think might have a vague chance of coming off that would be of benefit. Figures are approximate obviously.

Shelvey - a cheeky bid, maybe £4m. Hasn't started matches recently, obviously not a player for keeping it tight in midfield, but still has quality and is homegrown and still young and a Hammer. Maybe he wants out too.

Ruddy - One year left on his deal, seems ancient but is still only 29. If Randolph does want to move on, Ruddy would be a good homegrown replacement who may compete to be first choice. I'd go £2m on him.

Olsson - Okay we have Cresswell, and Olsson hasn't had a great season, but if we're looking for a reserve or maybe better at left back to fill out the squad I think he's worth £2.5m to us. Another in the last year of his contract. Worth looking how clubs like Spurs and Man City rotate 4 energetic full backs to keep them fresher, I think it's probably a wise strategy. Particularly if we're in Europe too.

Redmond - I'm not sure about him, but have to admit that at £5-6m it's probably a value purchase. Not sure there's more to come than what we've seen, but if he isn't a first-teamer he's a good attacking option from the bench which is a dealbreaker imo.

Bacuna - Not what you'd call a refined player, but I love his energy and he covers right back and midfield. At £2m or less I think he'd be a great buy.

Gueye - I'd pay what they paid last Summer for him - £7m odd. Villa's best player by far imo and could play much higher. Would be a better anchor in midfield than what we have imo.

Ayew - Can play either wing, got 7 goals in a poor side, lots of talent. Players who are comfortable in that wide position are rare. Like Redmond he would be a threat from the bench even if not in the first 11. £5m?

Re: Anyone worth pilfering from the relegated clubs?
>>> whatever the price, he is dogshit

Let's not confuse poor form with ability. Very relevant here, because many of these relegated players are in poor form but have a lot of ability.

I watched a match Payet played for Marseille a couple of years ago where he literally couldn't do a thing, every flick or trick or pass failed. The Mascherano we saw at West Ham couldn't play a 5-yard pass!

Have to look beyond that somewhat if we're trying to accurately measure the worth of a player.
